Background:

Churchers College prides itself on excellent sporting achievements  and as part of their strategy to continue to develop their sports facilities we were commissioned to prepare planning and construction details for a new football  / rugby pitch.
The land available was far from ideal for a new sports field, being both poorly draining and excessively sloping.  

The most cost effective method of construction was considered to be a combination of cutting and filling the existing landform.

Process

A detailed ‘in house’ topographic survey was undertaken using state of the art GPS surveying equipment  (Trimble ProXRT) .

From this information we prepared all the necessary details required both for planning approval and for accurate construction costing. This included detailed  grading plans, earthworks volumetric calculations, cross sections, drainage plans and isopachyte  plans (relative level changes) as well as a construction specification.
Having obtained planning consent, the site was prepared for construction work. This involved establishment of a contractor’s compound and administration office, the installation of tree protection fencing and the stripping and storage of the existing topsoil.

When the final subsoil formation levels were completed, the stored topsoil was reintroduced and the pitch drained using a network of subsurface slotted UPVC pipe set into gravel trenches. Following this the pitch was cultivated and seeded to the required specification.   

Completion of Project:

The project was completed in 2011. Churchers College now has a   multi use sports field that can accommodate football, rugby and other team sports.
